Sodium
Sodium is the main electrolyte found in the body which keeps a balance with water. Sodium enables muscle contraction and nerve impulse transmission which prevents ‘water intoxication’ and hyponatremia (low sodium in the blood). Additionally, sodium helps with blood pressure control. Sodium is also the main electrolyte lost through sweat.

Potassium
Potassium is found inside of cells and it is involved in the correct functioning of the kidneys, heart, digestive system, plus muscle and nerve conduction. It is important to maintain potassium levels to avoid the development of hypokalaemia (low potassium) which can lead to heart arrhythmias and muscle cramping.
